Nell'ambito dei progetti "Erasmus plus" c'è la possibilità per le scuole che ne fanno richiesta di ospitare per alcuni mesi un'aspirante insegnante proveniente da uno dei paesi dell'Unione Europea. La presenza del tirocinante permette di migliorare la capacità di comprensione ed espressione degli alunni in una lingua straniera arricchendo l’offerta di lingue insegnate nella scuola. I tirocinanti introducono e consolidano la dimensione europea nell’istituto e nella comunità ospitante e sensibilizzano gli allievi rispetto a un’altra cultura europea, permettono inoltre, di rendere più vivaci le lezioni in classe, sviluppare attività extrascolastiche e progetti europei.
Nel mese di settembre sono arrivate nel nostro istituto Lucia Ampuero Calderón e Lucía Alonso Rodríguez e successivamente alla richiesta della nostra scuola presentata all’Agenzia Nazionale lo scorso anno. Entrambe, benché siano molto giovani, si sono dimostrate disponibili e preparate. Lucia Ampuero Calderón svolge il suo tirocinio presso il l’istituto Malafarina; il suo lavoro consiste nell'affiancare le insegnanti d'inglese e interagire con loro nello svolgimento delle lezioni. Inoltre agevolerà la preparazione e la realizzazione dei progetti di partenariati Comenius ed Erasmus plus che si svolgono nell’istituto.
Lucía Alonso Rodríguez all’istituto comprensivo Ugo Foscolo affianca le docenti di lingua spagnola durante le ore curriculari e svolge un corso extracurriculare di lingua Spagnola per i ragazzi desiderosi di imparare questa lingua al di fuori del loro corso regolare di studio.
Ecco come le due ragazze descrivono la loro esperienza in Italia:
"We are two students from Spain who are living a new experience outside our country. After finishing our degree in Castilla-La Mancha University, we asked for a new grant included in Erasmus + Program (EPE). With this kind of traineeship we can be familiar with the labor market and we can have the opportunity of being part of a professional staff. Moreover, this experience represents an amazing way of learning a new language: Italian. Our task here in Soverato is being language assistants. Each of us is in a different school, teaching Spanish in Ugo Foscolo Scuola Media or teaching English in Istituto Malafarina. This means a great pleasure for us due to we also have the opportunity of transmitting new knowledges about other different countries and even from Spain.
Our internship goes on between two and six months with a maximum of three months financed although there is the possibility of extend the period. The mobility can be developed in any of the European Countries receiving economical support by the European Commission and any other organ of the own country of origin.
In this case, the welcoming to Soverato has been excellent. Everybody has been very warm and nice with us which has made easier our stay here. The food is incredible (more than we would like) and the landscapes are spectacular.
Erasmus + Program is a great way of gain experience and grow professionally as well as personally. Everybody should have the opportunity of living abroad, meeting new people, learning languages and a different culture which makes you more open-minded and respectful with others. We encourage you to get into different international programs! Don’t be afraid of it!"

Before I had gone to Italy, I was a bit anxious about how life flows here but eventually I have been greatly surprised by the warmth (or even the heat) that peoples' hearts produce in the south of Italy as well as by the outstanding beauty of Calabrese wild natural environment. All cities and towns in Calabria have something unique to offer, yet the unchanging thing is the people, always ready to help you as much as they can. Being here I am experiencing a marvelous adventure and I am sometimes overwhelmed by the gleam of the burning sun, which turns my skin into the color of a peperoncino. I am not able to render the taste of the local cuisine using letters so I should just say that it is “il più buona nel mondo.”
Students at school are very friendly and can speak good English, and some of them are really fluent. Generally speaking, they are eager to take part in the lessons and I think that they are very talented. I have also taught history classes in English here which is an unusal experience for me and it was a success. The members of the teaching staff are very friendly and also help me whenever I don't know how to do something and I'm very grateful to be among such good-natured people. There are also some high technology facilites at school that help students to learn faster. The school is prepared well for educating students at a high level.
During my stay here, I have learned some Italian which proves that participating in Erasmus gives a great opportunity of improving your language abilities and discovering the world on your own. This project also enriches a trainee with some important skills and experience that should turn out to be useful in the future. I advise you to participate in Erasmus+.

Sonja Carić, Croatia
I’m a graduate student from Split (Croatia), where I study English and Italian language and literature. Before applying for this internship at the “Giovanni Malafarina” school, I have already been to Italy many times and I have also taken part in the Erasmus+ program before. So I guess that, before coming here, I thought I had “seen it all” when it comes to Italy. Fortunately, I was wrong; I discovered that Calabria is a region of stunning natural beauties, that the local people are very friendly and helpful, in that charming ‘southerners’ way’, that the climate is just about perfect and, as is usually the case in Italy, that the cuisine is excellent.
My role in the school is that of an English language assistant, and so far I’m very pleased with how my internship is going. I find that the school itself is very well equipped, that my colleagues are all good-hearted people who do their job very well and are always willing to help me with everything I might need. Of course, above all, I think the students are generally very nice young people, open to new experiences and willing to learn and improve their knowledge of English. I hope that my stay here in Soverato and our lessons together will be useful to them, both from the point of view of their language skills, and also for broadening their horizons about the possibilities offered by the European Union and the opportunities that they too could take one day.
My traineeship at the “Malafarina” lasts six months (January-June), and is financed by the EU Erasmus+ mobility program. I see it as an amazing opportunity for a trainee to both learn something and to teach others something else. I would recommend to all my ‘fellow students’ all across the EU to come to Soverato for their internship, I’m sure that everyone who comes here will be satisfied with the experience. Of course, I’d also like to encourage all the students at “Malafarina” to take part in Erasmus or Comenius projects organized and coordinated by their school and their professors, since it’s a great opportunity to visit other countries, discover other cultures, learn something and meet new people.
Sono una studentessa della Croazia, provengo da Spalato dove mi sono laureata, ho studiato lingua inglese ed italiana, prima di ottenere questo stage presso l’istituto Malafarina, ho visitato molte volte l’Italia ed ho anche preso parte durante i miei studi al programma Erasmus+. Credevo di conoscerla molto bene e di aver visto tutto, ma ora stando in Calabria posso dire che fortunatamente mi sbagliavo.
Ho scoperto che la Calabria è una regione ricca di incredibili bellezze naturali, la gente del posto è molto cordiale e disponibile e questo essere tipicamente “meridionale” per me è affascinante. Il clima è perfetto e, come per tutto il resto dell’Italia, la cucina è eccellente.
Il mio ruolo nella scuola è quello di assistente di lingua inglese e finora sono molto contenta di come stia andando il mio tirocinio. Trovo che la scuola stessa sia molto ben attrezzata, che i miei colleghi siano tutte persone disponibili e di buon cuore che svolgono il loro lavoro molto bene. Naturalmente, prima di tutto, penso che gli studenti siano eccezionali, aperti a nuove esperienze e desiderosi di imparare e migliorare la loro conoscenza della lingua inglese. Spero che il mio soggiorno qui a Soverato e gli incontri a scuola con gli studenti possano essere utili sia dal punto di vista delle loro conoscenze linguistiche e sia per ampliare i loro orizzonti sulle possibilità offerte dall’Unione europea e sulle opportunità che un giorno potranno loro stessi avere.
Il mio tirocinio presso il "Malafarina" durerà sei mesi ( gennaio-giugno ), ed è finanziato dal programma di mobilità europea Erasmus+. Credo questa sia una straordinaria opportunità per un tirocinante perché avviene uno scambio di idee e metodologie dalle quali si può solo imparare . Vorrei raccomandare a tutti i miei colleghi universitari di venire a Soverato per il loro tirocinio , sono sicura che tutti coloro che verranno qui saranno soddisfatti dell'esperienza. Mi piacerebbe anche incoraggiare tutti gli studenti del “Malafarina "a partecipare ai progetti Erasmus+ organizzati e coordinati dalla loro scuola e dai loro professori, in quanto si tratta di una grande opportunità per visitare altri paesi, scoprire altre culture ed imparare in modo diverso.
